The Centre Of Things (album) [audio download]
(album) [mp3 audi download] This recording leads with The Centre of Things, a song-cycle composed by John Wallace between 2015 and 2019 for trumpet, tenor and piano on poems by Hugh MacDiarmid, Somhairle MacGill-Eain (Sorley MacLean) and Ruaraidh MacThòmais. It was first performed in its entirety by tenor Jamie MacDougall, pianist Marianna Abrahamyan with Bede Williams on trumpet on October 30 2024, at the MacPherson Recital Room of the Laidlaw Centre at the University of St Andrews. The inclusion of Paul Mealor’s Five Bagatelles (recorded in the same session) rounds off the tracklist of this album, once again highlighting the remarkable talents of the featured performers. The full score is also currently available as a downloadable PDF.
This recording project was enabled by the generous philanthropic giving of Lord Vallance of Tummel.

As Above, So Below (album) [audio download]
(album) [mp3 audio download The two works on this disc are groundbreaking landmarks in new composition for brass band. From 2017, Jay Capperauld's visionary masterpiece - As Above, So Below - extends composition for brass band into the realms of spatial quasi-religious experience. With the quintet elevated and spaced around the band, the band responds with a new vista of sound: everything from distant murmurings to cataclysmic rending of the air. From 1975, the Derek Bourgeois Concerto for Brass Quintet and Brass Band introduces a concertante quintet of orchestral instruments into the brass band milieu. Derek’s masterly exploitation of the increased palette of colour and texture results in a work of towering power and passion.

The Dynamic Duo (album) [audio download]
(Album) [Download MP3] When Covid-19 hit and the UK entered a succession of lockdowns, John Miller and John Wallace fished out some detritus from their previous lives as working full-time professional players. John Wallace writes: We started playing duets together around 70 years ago. So, we now started to amuse ourselves, playing through duets again, as we had done to ‘keep our lips in’ earlier in our careers. After soon running out of material there was nothing for it but to bite the bullet on the previously unapproachable Himalayan heights of Holloway along with Saint-Jacome and Bellon. In adversity, we discovered that there is much great music written for trumpet duet and inspire the hope that these recordings will stimulate others to play this music and derive as much pleasure from it as have 'we two Johns'.
