Description

Three of Haydn’s string quartets, transformed into brass quintets by Julien Tollot in c. 1860-68.  These complete works give a full-bodied taste and introduce the listener to The Wallace Collection’s Haydn Transformed Project.

The Haydn Transformed project looks at all of Haydn’s string quartets which were transformed by Tollot for brass quintet in c. 1960-68.  Through rehearsal, discussion and performance, The Wallace Collection are creating a definitive collection of recordings and engage the publishing of a complete critical Edition of the works.

Performed on period instruments, this recording offers a significant insight to the performance practices of the era.  It also provides a little taste of this important, lost repertoire which deserves a new spotlight.
